Dear friends of ACTS, This year we are especially excited to restart our Vietnam mission at a new location at An Binh Elementary School in the Can Tho area, along the Mekong Delta region in South Vietnam. An Binh is a rural town, about a 5-hour land journey of 190km from Ho Chi Minh City.

This will be our 6th year of mission in Vietnam, supporting the Institute of Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA or Salesian Sisters).

In An Binh, the Sisters reach out to about 200 kindergarten and elementary school level children, mostly from impoverished backgrounds. Their families earn a subsistence living as fishermen or odd-job labourers. As their homes are built along the river banks in this Mekong Delta region, most students hop on ferries to cross the river to attend school daily. Every year, the area experiences severe flooding during the monsoon seasons and An Binh School has not been spared its share of flood damage to classrooms and facilities.

Our mission requires our volunteers to interact with kindergarten to elementary school age children to conduct simple English and Mathematics lessons, organise art, craft and music activities, run folk games and hold hygiene and personal safety lessons. We will also be reaching out to families in need by delivering humanitarian parcels consisting of basic food essentials.
