CHARIS is organising a Talk cum Workshop exploring the use of art in mission work. This 3-hour interactive workshop will have a hands-on component to facilitate experiential learning. 

“Art therapy is a process of retrieving images from our unconscious mind, is a powerful technique to help people resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behaviour, reduce stress and trauma, increase self-esteem and self-awareness by offering other means than words to express suffering, encourages exchange which are often difficult to achieve for a child suffering from trauma.”

About the Speaker
Joanna Tan is a pioneer in the field of art therapy in Singapore having graduated from Edith Cowan University (WA) in 2004. She returned to Singapore in 2006 and was appointed Clinical Supervisor for the Masters of Art Therapy programme at Lasalle College of the Arts. She was reappointed Clinical Supervisor again in 2013 and continues in private practice to conduct professional training and supervision for therapists and counsellors. 2006 also saw the founding of This email address is being protected from spambots. Joanna’s full-time work as an art therapist these 10 years has given her the opportunity to encounter people from all walks of life. Her experience includes working with adults suffering from trauma & abuse, grief, depression, anxiety and various forms of mental, social and emotional distress as well as teens who suffer substance abuse. Working contractually with VWO and various agencies, she continues to provide art therapy for children with behavioral and emotional difficulties resulting from trauma, abuse and neglect.
