AN UPDATE – Typhoon Haiyan Relief

updated 25 Nov 2013

Source: BBC News

It has been 2 weeks since Typhoon Haiyan hit Philippines and hundreds of bodies are still being uncovered from the rubble each day. It is a grim and arduous reality. Let us continue to remember and offer support in the aftermath of this brutality of the storm.

Adelene and her husband Nick from ACTS Philippines, has headed to Cebu to be on ground to support the Salesian sisters with relief efforts.  They will be representing CHARIS and ACTS in response to deliver water filters, solar light sets and other essentials like medicine, ready to eat food, and assist in raising additional funds that may be needed.  They will be moving with the sisters to visit typhoon hit areas in northern Cebu, which we are told by Sr Sarah that 'the damages are truly enormous and the suffering of the people heartbreaking.'

The Salesian Sisters have visited three areas in northern Cebu to bring relief goods and Bohol (for earthquake victims) to bring supplies promised to the people. The water filters and other items from Singapore are very much appreciated. They will likely go to affected areas in northern Cebu (where there is no electricity) and the rest sent to Leyte soon. The Sisters will be planning a series of relief efforts until March next year.

Please continue to keep Adelene and Nick in your prayers - for boldness to witness, for protection, for God's guidance, patience and endurance during their journey.

Please continue to keep the people of The Philippines in your prayers, especially those who have lost everything, those hurt, suffering and hungry.

Thank You and God Bless.
Audrey Leong
