Kampot, Cambodia Mission, 14–21 Jun 2025 Registration
Mission size: 40-50 participants
Cambodia is a predominantly Buddhist country of 17 million, and Kampot is home to about 600,000 people, one of the nine regions that make up the Apostolic Vicariate of Phnom Penh. Local Catholics in Kampot number just a few hundred, scattered across an area about 7 times the size of Singapore. They are a small seed, but one germinating in an area undergoing deep change due to the growing tourist industry on the coast. The Church of St Augustine in Kampot City is named after “a young convert like so many of our Christians” and will become the heart of everything involving the community. ACTS will run a week-long outreach at the Parish of Saint Augustine Kampot.
For ACTS participants to engage meaningfully with the students, staff and the wider Christian community in Kampot, ACTS will organise small groups to conduct fun and exciting hands-on lessons in the theme of Laudato Si through science experiments, play, music, arts and crafts. There will also be general works, allied health support, medical and dental health services. We hope to share across language and cultural borders and bring our joy in the love of Christ to our brothers and sisters in Kampot
This year, we are looking for:
- Participants willing to teach Science in a fun way. Educators with prior classroom management experience, or Montessori training would be a plus.
- A team to do handywork / refresh facilities in rural Catholic education centre(s).
- Painters with a flair for mural art.
- Doctors, Dentists, Physio/Occupational/Special Needs Therapists, pharmacists and medical/dental students to run mobile clinics up between 1-2 hours’ drive out from the city.
Whilst no prior outreach experience is necessary, an open mind from participants helps to benefit from the outreach.
ACTS is looking for 40-50 participants between 13 and 70 years of age in good health, willing to commit fully to the mission (full week 14th to 21st June with long days, plus several half-day preparation sessions and team meetings in Singapore 3 months before the mission). Participants are expected to personally do detailed planning & preparation for their assigned role.
Participants aged below 19 whose parents are not participants must provide documented parental consent and have a guardian amongst the participants. The total cost per participant is estimated to be $1000 - $1200 (airfare, accommodation, mission fees (for water, land transport and most meals)) but excludes personal expenses. Participants need to be ready to live in lean conditions for the week and to show the love of Christ in our service to each other and to the Cambodian people we encounter.
Application closes on 9 March 2025. You will subsequently be notified to attend a Mission Awareness session to understand details about the mission outreach and what is expected from you. Participants who are still interested will be required to attend at least 3 further preparation sessions & some sub-team planning meetings & preparation work for their assigned role.
ACTS Kampot 2025 is co-ordinated by Kim & Kevin Snodgrass and will be journeyed with a Spiritual Director.
