Laos Mission, 28 June – 5 July 2025 Registration

Mission size: 40–50 participants

Come join us as we grow our mission in Laos after our pioneering 1st mission last year in Pakse. Located in Southern Laos, by the Mekong River, Pakse is the 2nd largest city in Laos, and the province has many dispersed villages. This mission will support the Catholic Church in Pakse, which ministers to 23,000 Catholics, spread out over many small rural villages in an area 8 times the size of Singapore. The people are largely poor farmers or daily-rated workers in rubber and coffee plantations.

During the mission, we will run :

• a summer programme for children and young people between 10 and 18 years of age, where we will teach simple    English, Maths, basic IT skills, leadership and life-skills. 
• sports and fun activities with the young people.
• medical clinics for the villagers in some parish centres.  
• distribute huminitarian package to villagers in need 

We are looking for :

• people who like to work with children and young people in learning and activities
• doctors, nurses and medical students to triage support to run our clinics
• people who are keen to help, adventurous to discover new things, can work in a team and want to share the love of Christ with others.

Estimated cost:

S$1000-$1200 which covers airfare, accommodation, mission fees (including water, land transport and most meals) but excludes personal expenses.

You will be informed to attend a Mission Awareness session where you can find out more our mission outreach and what is expected from you. If you are still interested to join us, you will be required to attend 3 more preparation sessions and other work planning meetings.

Youths below 15 years old must be accompanied by their parent for the mission.

Youths below 19 years old must be accompanied by an Adult / Guardian for the mission.

A guardianship responsibility is extended to no more than 2 minors not of kin.

MISSION OVERVIEW

AIRFARE
Participants are responsible for purchasing their own flight tickets. Travel insurance is compulsory.

ACCOMMODATION

Hotel reservations will be arranged for participants and all room and miscellaneous charges incurred will be settled by participants upon check out on the last day. Roommate must be either siblings/parent-child or of the same gender, if unrelated.

COST

Mission fee is SGD340 per person. This amount is used to help defray costs incurred for local land transfers, most meals, daily water supply and any expenses that may arise during mission week. It does not include airfare, hotel accommodation for the week and any personal expenses.  by appeal due to exceptional circumstances. Any balance from the total fees collected will be put back into the ACTS Central Mission Fund for use the following year. There will be no refunds except on medical grounds or by appeal due to exceptional circumstances.

PRE MISSION COMMITMENT
In preparation for a meaningful outreach experience, you will need to attend 4 Pre-Mission sessions. In particular, participants will not be confirmed for the mission until after they attend the Mission Awareness session on Sunday 23 March. Please do not book travel until you have been officially confirmed for the mission.

LUGGAGE
Ensure you have spare luggage space to help carry up items for the mission.

TRAVEL
All participants must arrive together on 28 June and depart only on/after 5 July. Pakse is not easily accessible so  all participants need to board the hired transport to and from our accommodation in one contingent.
